This is a portfolio site of my watercolor, illustration and design work. My illustrations have an overall rural, midwest and historical theme, but are also inspired by my travels worldwide.
I work with transparent watercolor, designers gouache and digital media using Adobe Photoshop (desktop) and Adobe Sketch (tablet).
I was raised on a farm in north central Kansas near the small farming community of Delphos. The experience of growing up in Kansas in the 1960’s and 1970″s influences the imagery that I produce today.
My extended family continue the farming and ranching tradition, maintaining a centennial farm established in 1870. I however, currently live in Missouri and work as a Professor of Art at Truman State University, teaching graphic design, illustration, 3D modeling, and motion/animation.
I attended Fort Hays State University, obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts: Graphic Design and Master of Fine Arts: Visual Communications from Kansas State University. I worked professionally for 15 years as a graphic designer, art director and freelance illustrator in and around Kansas City, Topeka and Salina, Kansas before entering higher education.
